The Proposal
Kitty’s birthday was the weekend before the proposal, but they barely celebrated because she was so busy with exams, club responsibilities, and other issues. The next weekend her parents were coming to visit, so they would celebrate then.
Well, the next weekend came, and after a super stressful week, Kitty and her mom, Lori, wanted to go get a pedicure to relax. Unbeknownst to Kitty, Alex had a plan! He picked up balloons and streamers and pink rose petals and decorated her whole apartment while she was out relaxing. Kitty texted him to meet her for lunch and thought it was odd when he asked her to wait a little longer because lunch was too early at 11. Kitty thought that was odd because usually he doesn’t eat breakfast and they do an early lunch, but he had told her he was going to visit Chris in the morning and pick up a book he had let Chris borrow a few weeks back. Maybe he was just running late chatting with Chris.
Lori, Kitty, Dale (Kitty’s dad), and Alex all met for lunch at Little Apple Brewery. It was great and relaxing, and then they headed back to the apartment. Kitty was blown away by all the decorating Alex had done! Even though he says he is fine with balloons, if you talk about the static electricity from balloons he gets goosebumps, so Kitty was shocked that there were balloons (she loves balloons)! She was so excited that he had gone through so much effort to make her birthday great, but she did not think that the proposal was coming. She had a long, stressful week performing her first surgery, and with not celebrating the week before, it seemed natural that Alex would do something special for her birthday.
Her parents came back to cook for her party that night and Kitty studied. The whole time the ring was sitting in a present on the table and Kitty was completely oblivious.
The party rolled around and they played games for a while, then decided to cut the cheesecake. After Kitty blew out the candles, Lori passed the cake out and told her to open her presents. The last gift was from Alex.
Kitty opened the bag and was so excited to see a Bernese Mountain Dog stuffed animal! She had sent Alex a link to one from Build a Bear whose profits went to help the Humane Society, as Bernese are her favorite dogs, but he told her she wasn’t getting another stuffed animal. It even had a cute little barrel around its neck! He told her to open the barrel, and there was a little cardboard square. Kitty had also asked for a pair of aquamarine earrings to match the necklace he had given her a few years ago, and thought this was the earring card. She was ecstatic, but still oblivious. It was only when she pulled it out and saw it stamped with the fleur de lis wax seal that she started realizing something more was happening. When she broke the seal, the note read ‘Will you marry me?’ and Alex dropped to one knee and asked the question.
Everyone was crying (especially Kitty) and clapping. Kitty was so stunned she forgot to say yes at first, and just asked, “Are you serious?” and kissed him. After the initial shock was over, she said yes!
Interestingly enough, Alex had been planning on proposing to her on their 9 year anniversary, but a few days before their anniversary party her ceiling in her apartment was damaged by upstairs neighbors and the living room flooded. The ring rode back with her all the way from Indiana as she made her way back from summer internships. Lori had hidden it inside a shirt she showed Kitty as a gift for Alex. When they got to Alex’s apartment, Kitty was excited to give him the shirt, but he was acting a bit strange. Kitty thought he didn’t like the shirt and didn’t want her mom to think he was being ungrateful, so she made him go try it on, and then he hid the ring. Her two friends, Mollie and Sarina (also bridesmaids), helped Alex coordinate things for the new proposal, but all of the ideas and decorating were Alex’s hard work. It could not have been any more perfect!
The bernese mountain dog has been named proposal, but is called “Posie” for short.
