Midna

Midna

In Epaul, near the border of Eidur mouintain, the forests are home to the many shifter and were-animal communities. Blackblood Forest is the home of the dragon shifters. The dragon shifters have a matriarchal society, and dusk elves are fairly common. Midna's mother is on the city council, a prominent leader who advocates for better education in the community to hopefully bridge the gap of misunderstanding between the shifter and human communities.

Her father is a successful merchant who runs the largest trade line between Blackblood Forest and the rest of Bregne Fenn, though he has even been known to source items from Glass Spire, and is rumored to have obtained a legendary stone from Voeten, where almost no one has travelled. His ability to find even the rarest and most expensive items has established them as a very well off and prominent family. Many of the shifter community follow K'rah K'halle but Midna's family followed Aiala, focusing on the cycle of life on the earth and their part in maintaining that balance. This hasn't cause any issues in the past, but as Eidur Mountain grows in power (a hotbed of K'rah K'halle worship), they are careful to not discuss religion too aggressively.

Dragon shifters are very close and family ties are incredibly important, but when a shifter reaches adulthood, they are sent out on a quest to find and start their hoard. Not all dragons hoard money and jewels. There are those who collect armor, books, rare flowers, food, or more. The hordes must be significant to the individual dragon, but may not make sense to others. Even in a single family there can be tons of variation in hordes.

As Midna prepared to leave on her quest, her father was in talks with Wishwater to set up a better trade line for magical and technological marvels. Wishwater is growing and their technology and technomancy evolves at a much faster rate than anywhere else on Bregne Fenn (the main continent). Right now, there is not a direct trade line from any of the collection of animal forests in Epaul and Wishwater. Epaul and Epaulette are frequently in a soft-battle/cold war to try to take over Wishwater, which has been a separate city-state for the past five centuries, though has previously belonged to either side. Neither country wants to let go of their claim, though Wishwater has fought hard to maintain independence despite heavy pressure from both sides. The shifter community acts on the fringes of the Epaul government, so there may be attempts to influence or sabotage this trade deal. Midna's strong bond to her family made it quite difficult to leave her family during this uncertain time, but her parents assured her that all would be well and they would stay in touch. She could return home when she found her hoard.

Staring at the smoke curling from Eidur Mountain, she decided to head south, skirting the mountain and see what the other side of the world had to offer a dragon.
